If you are interested in being a Street Team member to help distribute posters and fliers in your hometown, please email: dartour@gmail . com . For tour dates see: http://www . darwilliams . com About Dar Williams "With every album, I’m trying to figure out what I don’t have to say, while still giving each song its due," Dar Williams says. Of her new album, Promised Land, Williams commented, "On this one, I was paring the stories down to their core. I wanted the songs to sound simple and down to what they were meant to be, which is hard to do. It takes a lot of knowledge to get to the point where you can say what you need to say — no more, no less." To peel her insightful, melodic story-songs down to their essence, as well as inject them with the energy and momentum they clearly called for, Williams enlisted Brad Wood, a Grammy-nominated producer and musician known for his work with rock singer-songwriters Liz Phair, Pete Yorn, and Ben Lee. "Dar was looking to try something different and get out of her comfort zone," Wood says. "She had made a number of records and it seemed like a good time, career-wise, for her to make a chan I was flattered that she thought to ask me to help. Her voice is so great that you can do just about anything behind her and it’s going to sound cool!" Personally inspired by the spindly live feel of late '70s/early '80s albums by the Police, Elvis Costello, and the Pretenders, Wood manages to make Williams' elegant, worldly songs sound visceral and urgent, while preserving the integrity and emotion that have been hallmarks of her sound (along with a beautifully intimate, bell-clear voice) since Williams began playing out on the Northeast singer-songwriter circuit in the early ’90s. “Brad understood the songs and gave them the space they needed,” Williams says. “I love that clean, straightforward sound he gets.” And so Promised Land includes several immediately engaging toe-tappers, such as “It’s Alright,” “The Easy Way,” “Buzzer,” and “Go to the Woods,” as well as Williams’ trademark thoughtful balladry, including the keenly felt “Book of Love,” “The Tide Falls Away,” and “You Are Everyone. http://www . darwilliams . com In the past, Williams’ songwriting has located the personal in such universal topics as politics, religion, sexuality, and family. This time, rather than tie the songs together around any particular theme. JAMES McMURTRY will performon Monday 12 October at the The Bongo Club @ 7:30pm JUST ANNOUNCED!! The blackbirds are back in the pink sunset skies of Austin. They migrate here in the winter, carrying souls through the etheric journey of timeless energetic experience. This is a metaphor of life and death... embodied by emotional frequencies embedded in the recording of the Creature Sessions. The birds are a visual reminder to transcend our concept of limitation and treat our time as valuable - we should be cognizant of how, and with whom, we are spending our fleeting moments.
A musical experience is a unifying experience. We are rhythmic creatures, from the beat of our hearts to the fundamental patterns we live by. It is essential to give ourselves the opportunity to be in a place where rhythm and melody were created to exalt the feeling of freedom and passion in you. Climactic sonic messages to carry your vision higher and transcend limited perspective with the birds! You are valuable! You are valuable to us!
Come be with Creature Rock performing in the flesh
Extending to you from Back Alley Social in Austin, TX, The journey begins this Saturday, November 14th 9:30-10:30PM!
Sound carries through all forms of matter and our physical and energetic bodies respond vibrationally to the oscillations, intensity, speed and frequencies through which sound waves are characterized. The word for today is cymatics - the study of visible sound and vibration and its effects on various mediums. Think of ripples in a water surface when deep thunder occurs. Our bodies are made of 70% water. Image in your mind what the soundtrack of your life literally looks like, in physical visible patterns. What sounds should you try to be avoiding or getting more of to activate your brain in a more articulate way?
Speaking of rhythm...
Halloween is the birthday of one James Ichabod Harwood, drummer extraordinaire. Creatures everywhere traditionally come together to celebrate this glorious event, and accordingly, we marched with the Krewe du Coeur Maudit through downtown Austin. Each year, James leads the cadence of the zombie drum corps. Michael with a birds eye view and homemade stilts entranced onlookers as the lone female stiltwalker among a 60,000-strong crowd of costumed revelers. Together they led a 40-foot long dragon down 6th Street, through a tunnel of camera flashes and amazed pink monkeys!
The Back Alley Social SHOW THIS SATURDAY NOV. 14 9:30 PM is right in the heart of downtown Austin!! Fifth St. near the capital building!
We're playing with Fifth Nation and our performance is going to tear the very fabric of space and time. And you know how the creatures love their costumes! This show is also the triumphant return of dancing comet Emily Boykin. The Creature, the Comet, The Ichabod... OH MY! Oh My! Music that is!
Love you all! Create a Masterpiece with your life! -----
November 12, 2009
In this issue:
The Message: Music is a unifying experience and the awareness of its effects on the cellular level enriches the value placed on how and where we spend our time.
The Vision: Image the soundtrack of your life in a literal sense. What sounds do you need more or less of to be connected to your natural rhythm?
Word of the Day: Cymatics-the study of visible sound and vibration and it's effects on various mediums.
Creature Rock - Rhapsodies of unorthodox, imaginative rock, intended to convey a message of self expression and growth of being. Orchestrations that are lyrical in nature and artistic in purpose.

In 2005 my collaboration with Laughing Horse left me suspicious of their motives, but the shows went ahead, and they were successful. For 2006 I found two new venues, bringing the total to four. A second performance room was also opened at the UCW Club, bringing the number of spaces to five. The expansion could proceed. Shows were booked; again, behind my back (This also happened in 2005). Some of these booked shows promised to be good, and indeed were; others should never have been accepted. The good news was that the expansion worked; full audiences were seen at all venues, and they were happy. So were the performers.
